Your website address
What it is
The website address is what a guest types into their browser - for example
myhotel.com. Ubytora does not provide free addresses, you always need your own.
That is deliberate: the address belongs to you and stays yours, whatever happens.
Why you need it
Without an address the website is not publicly accessible. Guests cannot reach it and you will not appear in the accommodation catalog either - a guest would have nowhere to click.
Three ways to sort it out
You choose between them during setup, but they can also be dealt with later.
1. I'll do it myself - free
You already own the address (or you buy one, which costs roughly €15 a year). You give it to us and we send you exact instructions on what to set. You can also find the instructions in your account at any time.
2. Do it for me - €99 one-off
We contact you within 24 hours and set up everything technical for you. All we need is access to the address management. It includes the setup and the security certificate. Once the setup is finished, the fee is not refunded.
3. Migrate my existing website - €299 one-off
If you already have a website and do not want to start from scratch. We move the photos, texts, rooms and prices, set up the address and launch the website. You send us the materials. Once the migration is finished, the fee is not refunded.
How to set the address up yourself
- Log in to
ubytora.comand open your property detail. - In the Domain settings section, click Show guide.
- A window opens with the exact values to enter. There are two records of
type A - one named
@(the address itself) and one namedwww. Copy the value with the Copy button. - Log in where you bought the address - for example GoDaddy, Namecheap, WebSupport or WEDOS.
- Find the section called DNS records, DNS management or DNS zone.
- Set up both records exactly as shown in our window and save.
- In your property detail, click Check settings. If something is wrong, it tells you exactly which record to fix.
The whole thing takes about 5 minutes. We also check the settings automatically every 15 minutes. Changes spread across the internet gradually, usually within a few hours, in rare cases up to 24 hours.
If you already have some records there
- There is already an A record named
@. Do not add a new one - change its value to the one from our guide. If there are several, keep one and delete the rest. - There is already a record named
wwwand you cannot add a new one. If it is a CNAME, just change its value to your address (for examplemyhotel.com). If it is an A record, change its value to the one from our guide. You can also delete it and add a new A record. - You have AAAA records. Delete the ones named
@orwww- they lead to your old website. - The Name field does not accept
@. Some providers leave the field empty instead of@, or ask for the full address (for examplemyhotel.com). That is correct too. - Leave all other records as they are. Especially MX records - they deliver your email. If you delete them, your email stops working.
If your address is a subdomain
For example hotel.company.com. You add the records in the DNS of
company.com, and instead of @ and www they are named hotel and
www.hotel. The guide in your property detail shows you the right names.
Who manages your DNS
Your records are not always managed by the company you bought the address from. If your website or email is with another hosting provider, it often manages your DNS and the records are changed there. When the check finds a problem, it also tells you who manages your DNS.
Where to see whether it works
Your property detail at ubytora.com has a Domain settings section. It
shows the status of your DNS records, the security certificate (HTTPS) and when
the last check ran.
The Check settings button checks the setup right away and writes the result under the status:
| Result | What it means |
|---|---|
| Everything is set up correctly | Your website is live on your address. |
| Your records are set up correctly, the change is still spreading | You do not need to do anything, just wait. If we know how long, we say so. |
| We are securing your website | The records are fine, we are issuing the certificate, usually within a few minutes. |
| We found a problem with the setup | Below it is a list of exactly what to fix - for example a missing www record or an old record to delete. |
We take care of the security certificate, you do not need to do anything with it.
When your website goes live on your address, you get a notification in the
bell at the top right of ubytora.com. We also notify you there if a live
website stops working later (for example after the records were changed at
your registrar).
How to change the address
In the same section there is Change domain (if you did not enter an address when signing up, it is called Set up a domain). Enter the new address, click Save change and confirm.
Bear in mind that the old address stops working immediately and the new one only works once the DNS records are set up, usually within a few hours, in rare cases up to 24 hours. Right after saving, the guide with the values for the new address opens, and we also send it to you by email.
Common problems
I cannot add the record because it already exists. Edit the existing record instead of adding a new one. See "If you already have some records there" above.
The records are there but the website is still not live. Click Check settings. If it says everything is correct and the change is spreading, just wait. If it lists a problem, fix exactly what it says.
I changed the records but the check still shows the old value. Your DNS is probably managed by your hosting provider, not your registrar. The check tells you who manages it - edit the records there.
I cannot find the DNS settings. Contact the support of the company where you bought the address - they can show you or set it up for you.
I do not know where I bought the address. Search your email for "domain" or "domain registration". The registrar's invoice will be there.
I do not have an address yet. You can buy one from any registrar. Or pay €99 extra and we will handle it for you - write to us.
I want the website to work without www too. It does. That is why you set
up two records - one for the address with www and one without it. The www
address automatically redirects guests to the address without it.
